Hello fellow deviants!

Ok, I've barely been doing anything on DeviantART this year and I sincerely apologise. I've been too consumed with preparing for University and working full-time all year. It's been one hectic and stressful year for both work, family, and myself. I've badly bruised muscles on my ribs and spine from falling off a horse (quite painful whenever I move). My misfortunes aside, this is the time to be grateful and to set aside differences and just enjoy life. Although I think many, including myself, have forgotten this.

There is something I want to share with you guys, a true short story.

For Christmas and New Years' I'm going on a road trip to visit family and have a little holiday and sightseeing during the journey. Just last night my immediate family and I went out to Christmas Carols and Fireworks. It was quite the amazing event. The Carols were performed by volunteers. During the fireworks, I felt a sense of paranoia and unease, not trusting those around me. Why this was so, I have no idea but nonetheless, I couldn't shake off that feeling. On the train back to the motel, the carriage was quite crowded. My family and I save my younger brother sat in chairs opposite to each other. My autistic brother was swinging from a metal railing so the seat next to me was free. At one stop, a middle-aged man entered and asked me if the seat next to me was free. Despite their insistence to let my brother sit in the chair, I let him have the seat. In return, he started chatting to my brother, showing him a trick where you can make a farting sounds from clasping your hands together, tensing and releasing them. Then he got out his iPad and let my brother play a game for 15 minutes before we arrived at our stop. The entire time my mind was running frantically as it tried determining whether the stranger was some sort of pedophile and this was an initial ploy of gaining the trust of the target and his/her family, or whether he was genuinely a kind stranger doing a good deed. Once we were finally off the train I couldn't but feel confused and ashamed. Why wasn't I able to see it was just a random act of kindness? Why did I take a positive experience and made it negative by simple assumptions? Was I right to take the experience with caution and near hostility or should I have been less guarded? I guess I can never know. The past, is after all, the past and cannot be changed.

The moral of the story is; try to set aside negative assumptions about people, unless there is proof for it to be genuine. In other words, have some faith in humanity.

Moral stories aside, I hope you guys have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year or if you don't celebrate either, enjoy the holiday season!

P.S. I intend to spend more time on DA. I'll get on whenever I can these holidays, provided there is wi-fi :D

Hiya, I'm Swift, or you can call me Gitta. I currently live in Australia and aspire to be an author.

I specialise mainly in my fanfiction about my OC Swift, and the contemplations of an adolescent and female aspie. Occasionally I'll post photographs of things that spark my interest or that I admire, plus the odd short story or drabble.

I dislike seeing people down or hurt so if you ever need someone to talk to or need some advice, I'm always willing to talk and help you out.
